Ember
NPCs for Unreal Engine that remember, react and talk back.
Ember is a plugin that gives your characters context, memory and a voice of their own. It handles the hard parts around the AI model, so you design characters instead of prompts.
What characters can do
- Characters that remember
- NPCs keep track of the player, what was said and what happened, and act on it later.
- Vendors you can haggle with
- Shopkeepers set prices, make counter-offers and remember how you treated them.
- NPCs that talk to each other
- Characters start conversations among themselves, on their own, without the player.
- Guards you have to convince
- Some doors only open if you talk your way through. The NPC decides whether you've earned it.
How it works
Your game describes the moment
Who the character is, what they know and remember, and what's happening around them.
Ember asks the model
Through Wrennick's API, so your keys never ship with your game.
Your game plays the answer
What the character says, and what they decide to do.
Roadmap
Now
The Unreal plugin, with characters running on established AI models through Wrennick's API. You get every feature above without hosting anything.
Later
Our own model, trained for NPCs on top of an open-source base, small enough to run on the player's machine. No internet needed and no cost per conversation.
Questions
Which AI models does Ember use?
Ember is the harness around the model, not the model itself. It uses established AI models, and we'll list exactly which ones each tier uses.
Do my API keys end up in my game?
No. Your game talks to Wrennick's API, which holds the keys on the server. Every request is authenticated and rate-limited, so nobody can pull a key out of your build.
Does it work offline?
Not yet. Today characters reach the AI models through Wrennick's servers. A model that runs on the player's own machine is on the roadmap.
Which engines does it support?
Unreal Engine.
How much will it cost?
Not decided yet.
When can I use it?
There’s no date yet. The Discord gets news first.
